QMAST Get’s Ready for the New Year

This summer we had the fantastic opportunity to host the International Robotic Sailing Competition here in Kingston! As much as we loved having all 8 schools visit us, the United States Naval Academy will be taking the torch for 2017 and we will join them in
Annapolis, Maryland this summer.

For now, here’s what we’ve got planned until IRSR 2017:

  • The Electrical Team is gearing up to improve boat performance through the integration of key components on our custom PCBs to an intelligent HUD giving us a much more user-friendly visual of system and environmental conditions.

The U.S. Naval Academy Hosts IRSR

Each school year QMAST participates in the International Robotic Sailing Competition (IRSC). This year we are excited to be attending the IRSC at the U.S. International Academy in Maryland U.S. from June 11th to 16th.

The competition will be held at he Robert Crown Sailing Center in Annapolis which has hosted the event several times in the past, most recently in 2011. Though the weather in Annapolis in June is usually pleasant, the outdoor nature of the event makes for the possibility of unexpected weather challenges such as strong winds and rain, making the competition even more difficult.

The competition this year will have numerous challenges including: Station Keeping and Navigational; Endurance; and Payload and Collision Avoidance. We look forward to demonstrating all of the hard work that has gone into building out boat during this past year.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress and results!
